Perspective View of the Commercial Hub Community Center near Deokjeong Station, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do
The 'Commercial Hub Community Center,' a key facility in the urban regeneration project in Deokjeong-dong, Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, will be completed in August.
The Deokjeong-dong Commercial Hub Community Center is part of a project around Deokjeong Station on the Gyeongwon Line, which includes ▲establishing the Commercial Hub Community Center ▲creating a family forest ▲alleyway maintenance projects ▲and establishing the Kkumteul Community Center.
Deokjeong Station has an average daily ridership of about 15,000 people and has served as a major transportation hub for local residents and nearby university students since its opening.
However, as the commercial buildings near Deokjeong Station have aged and major commercial areas have shifted to large-scale retail facilities located in the surrounding new towns, the original downtown area of Deokjeong-dong is rapidly declining. Therefore, there is a need to renovate attraction facilities and outdated infrastructure to bring in new visitors and revitalize the commercial district.
The newly completed 'Commercial Hub Community Center' is part of the urban regeneration project on the site of the former Deokjeong Police Substation, which had been unused. It will be constructed at 132-33 Deokjeong-dong, Yangju-si, with four above-ground floors and a total floor area of 993㎡.
The Commercial Hub Community Center will serve as infrastructure to support local merchants and revitalize the commercial district. It will operate commercial revitalization programs and be used as a venue for step-by-step, customized capacity-building education targeting traditional markets and alleyway merchants.
Seo Sang-gyu, head of the Gyeonggi Province Regeneration Management Team, stated, "Active participation and interest from residents are crucial for the success of urban regeneration projects," adding, "We will strive to create a resident-participation community space that provides opportunities for residents to take the lead in solving local issues."
