‘Sound-Absorbing Acoustic Pads’ Free Rental Expanded
Installation of Acoustic Pads at Local Construction Sites, Service Achieves Excellent 15dB(A) Noise Reduction
Construction Site Officials and Residents Both Satisfied... Efforts to Improve Residential Environment
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will expand the operation of the nation’s first-ever free rental service for sound-absorbing noise reduction pads at construction sites this year to create a pleasant residential environment for residents.
The "sound-absorbing noise reduction pad" is made primarily of polypropylene and polyester, materials used in automotive sound absorbers, standardized and directly installed on construction site system scaffolding to enclose noise sources, reducing noise by up to 15dB(A).
Accordingly, the district started the free rental project of the "sound-absorbing noise reduction pads" to construction sites nationwide for the first time last year. It has been evaluated to have contributed to minimizing residents’ damage caused by construction noise and dust by showing excellent noise reduction effects as well as reducing scattered dust emissions.
In fact, after installing and operating the "sound-absorbing noise reduction pads" at construction sites located in densely populated residential areas with many noise complaints, noise reduction effects were achieved compared to before installation, and complaints significantly decreased, receiving high praise from residents.
Unlike the existing temporary soundproof walls that can only be installed on the lower floors of buildings, the sound-absorbing noise reduction pads have no height restrictions for installation, making them highly effective even on mid- to high-rise floors. In particular, a resident living on the 5th floor of a villa adjacent to a construction site, who had suffered considerable noise damage, expressed great satisfaction, saying, “After installing the sound-absorbing noise reduction pads, the noise seems to have been reduced by half.”
A construction site official using the noise reduction pads expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the district office’s free rental of the sound-absorbing noise reduction pads, noise complaints decreased, allowing us to complete the construction schedule about a month earlier.”
Encouraged by the high response from residents, this year the support budget will be doubled to expand the service to more construction sites within the district so that more residents can benefit.
The target is construction sites within Songpa-gu with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or less. Applications can be submitted by visiting the Clean Environment Division of Songpa-gu Office and submitting the application form along with necessary documents such as the building permit.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Since the sound-absorbing noise reduction pads are highly effective, we will do our best to minimize residents’ damage caused by noise and dust near construction sites through expanded operation and further create a pleasant residential environment.”
