On the 19th (local time), when a global IT crisis occurred, all three major indices of the New York Stock Exchange closed down nearly 1%.

New York Stock Market Closes Lower on All Three Major Indexes... Dow Down 0.9%

On the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,287.53, down 377.49 points (-0.93%) from the previous session.

The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 index fell 39.59 points (0.71%) to 5,505.00, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq index closed at 17,726.94, down 144.28 points (0.81%) from the previous session.

While major tech stocks showed weakness for consecutive days, economically sensitive stocks and small- and mid-cap stocks, which had recently been strong due to rotation trading, also showed weakness following the previous day.

However, on a weekly basis, the Dow index, which has a lower proportion of tech stocks, rose 0.6% this week despite turning weak in the latter part. The Russell 2000 index, representing small- and mid-cap stocks, also rose 1.7% this week.

On a weekly basis, the S&P 500 index fell 2%, and the Nasdaq index dropped 3.7%, marking the largest decline since April.

Meanwhile, despite the IT crisis that simultaneously paralyzed global transportation, communication, and financial infrastructure, the New York Stock Exchange closed normally without any significant errors.

CrowdStrike, responsible for causing the computer system failure, plunged 11.1% on the day, while Microsoft (MS) fell 0.74%.
