Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong County Recommends Vacation Spots for Relaxation and Inspiration

To help you escape the summer heat, Cheongsong-gun, known as the Oxygen Cafe with a sense of relaxation, has recommended some cool vacation spots where you can travel comfortably.

Juwangsan Mountain, the 12th national park designated in Korea, is renowned for its breathtaking cliffs and deep, scenic valleys that create a spectacular landscape.

Along the trail, you can enjoy the stunning views formed by numerous rocky peaks such as Giam, Yeonhwabong, Geupsudae, Sirubong, and Hak Sodae, as well as waterfalls like Yongchu, Jeolgu, and Yongyeon, all harmoniously blending together.

Although it is considered one of the three major rocky mountains in Korea, the trails are flat enough for strollers. While it gets crowded during the autumn foliage season, in summer you can enjoy a more tranquil walk.

If you head from Juwangsan Mountain toward Okgyegye Valley in Yeongdeok-gun, you will come across the refreshing Eoreumgol artificial waterfall. In this valley, when the outside temperature exceeds 32°C in midsummer, ice forms and the valley water is as cold as ice. Sitting under the shade of trees, watching the powerful waterfall, and drinking Eoreumgol spring water is the ultimate way to beat the heat.

Shinseong Valley boasts stunning scenery, clear water, and dense pine forests. The entire valley from Banghojeong to Baekseoktan in Gowari is designated as one of the eight scenic spots of Cheongsong.

This area is also an environmental learning site, housing four geological attractions of the Cheongsong UNESCO Global Geopark: the Shinseong-ri Dinosaur Footprint Fossil Site, Banghojeong Incised Meandering Stream, and Baekseoktan Pothole.

The Shinseong-ri Dinosaur Footprint Fossil Site was discovered in 2003 after a landslide caused by Typhoon Maemi, revealing about 400 dinosaur footprints. The small park with dinosaur models serves as both a learning site and a photo zone.

Banghojeong Incised Meandering Stream is a famous spot where a beautiful river, sedimentary rock cliffs, and the folk cultural property 'Banghojeong' come together. Banghojeong is a pavilion built by scholar Bangho Jo Jundo of the Joseon Dynasty, who longed for his late mother, at a site overlooking the grave of his biological mother, Andong Gwon. It is a must-visit if you come to Shinseong Valley.

Lastly, the Baekseoktan Pothole in Gowari Valley, Andeok-myeon, features a group of rocks resembling miniature peaks of the Alps, with jade-colored water flowing between the white stones, creating an almost otherworldly scene.

Cheongsong Baekja, a renowned porcelain classified as one of the four major regional kilns in the late Joseon Dynasty, is exhibited and sold here with a modern reinterpretation of traditional ceramics. Visitors can also participate in various pottery experiences using Cheongsong Baekja.

Namgwan Life Culture Center.

Namkwan Life Culture Center (Bunam-myeon, Bunam-ro)

The Namkwan Culture Center is a cultural and artistic space established to honor Namkwan, a master of abstract art in Korea. From July 16 to September 1, a special exhibition titled 'Reflections on Parting, and New Encounters' will be held at the Media Art Hall as part of the 2024 joint exhibition project with the National Asia Culture Center.

Yasong Art Museum (Jinbo-myeon, Gyeongdong-ro)

The Yasong Art Museum displays over 360 works by Yasong Lee Wonjwa, a renowned oriental painter from Cheongsong, along with special exhibitions. The Cheongnyangdaewoon-do Exhibition Hall, housed in a separate building, showcases the masterpiece 'Cheongnyangdaewoon-do,' the world's largest oriental painting.

Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong County Chicken Baeksuk.

Dalki Mineral Spring was discovered about 130 years ago during a waterway construction project. The water, rich in carbonic acid and various minerals, has long been believed to help treat stomach ailments and other diseases.

Sinchon Mineral Spring, which has water with similar properties to Dalki Mineral Spring, is famous for dishes such as boiled chicken, chicken bulgogi, and chicken wings made with mineral water. Many people visit every year to recharge their energy during the exhausting summer season.
