Cheonan City Reports Flooding of Homes, Roads, and Stores Amid Heavy Rain Warning On the 8th, due to heavy rain, the retaining wall of the factory site in Hwadeokri, Dongmyeon, collapsed. The city of Daun initiated emergency restoration work and strengthened joint monitoring activities with the private sector.

On the 18th, as a heavy rain warning was issued for Cheonan, Chungnam, the city established a cooperative system with the private sector and began emergency operations to prevent various disasters such as retaining wall collapses.


According to Cheonan City on the 18th, the average rainfall in the Cheonan area was 39mm, with the maximum recorded at Seonghwan Angung at 105mm.


In particular, the city is making an all-out effort to prevent disasters during the rainy season, as a retaining wall at a factory site in Hwadeok-ri, Dong-myeon collapsed due to heavy rain on the 8th.


The city has designated 12 areas at risk of mountain area damage and 12 areas at risk of development activity damage as key management sites, and all teams from the relevant departments are conducting on-site inspections.


Additionally, to establish a cooperative system with the private sector, the city sent official documents to the local Association of Architects and Surveyors, as well as mountain area development permit holders, urging intensive management of high-risk development sites.


A Cheonan City official said, "We will do our best to protect the safety of citizens by responding quickly to weather conditions and working together with related organizations to minimize damage to residents."


Meanwhile, due to the heavy rain warning, Seongjeong Underpass, Yongjeong-ri Jandari-gil in Pungse-myeon, Namsan Underpass, Sinbang Riverside Road, and Pungse-ro are currently closed. Access to riverside walking paths such as Cheonancheon and Sinbang Stream Path is also restricted.


As of the morning of the same day, flooding was reported in 14 locations, including houses, factories, commercial buildings, and roads.


In the nearby Asan area, more than 100mm of rain fell, causing a river to overflow. As Gungecheon in Dunpo-myeon overflowed, nearby farmland was flooded, and the embankment of the lower drainage channel at Munbang Reservoir in Inju-myeon also collapsed.
