Promotion of Retrospective Event Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Artist Cheon Gyeongja's Birth and More
Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 12th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Professor Kim Jeong-hee, the second daughter of artist Cheon Kyung-ja, at the county office.
The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of Governor Gong Young-min, Professor Kim Jeong-hee, the daughter of Cheon Kyung-ja, her son-in-law Professor Moon Beom-gang, and other related parties.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲ permanent loan of Cheon Kyung-ja’s belongings ▲ 100th anniversary commemorative exhibition of artist Cheon Kyung-ja ▲ construction of the Cheon Kyung-ja Memorial Hall.
The bereaved family will deliver the list of belongings to the county by September, and the county plans to hold the commemorative exhibition in November, coinciding with the artist’s birthday.
This exhibition will serve as a signal to re-examine Cheon Kyung-ja, a representative local artist of Goheung-gun, and will be an important opportunity for the development of Goheung’s art and culture.
Goheung-gun stated, “We will strive to honor the works and artistic spirit of this world-renowned artist born in Goheung and to establish a representative cultural space in the region.”
Meanwhile, artist Cheon Kyung-ja was born in 1924 in Goheung-gun and grew into a world-renowned painter. She established a unique painting style and expanded her artistic world through overseas travels.
Even after the mid-1970s, she actively traveled abroad and continued her artistic activities, holding solo exhibitions at places such as the Seoul Museum of Art and Hoam Art Museum.
Her major works include “Ecology,” “Chohon,” and “Page 22 of My Sad Legend.” Works related to Goheung include “Grandfather,” “Hymn of the Sea,” and “Sister Gillye.” She also left behind writings such as “Twilight Where Tango Flows” and “Page 49 of My Sad Legend.”
