Females aged 12-17 and low-income females aged 18-26
Uljugun Public Health Center is offering free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations for female adolescents aged 12 to 17 and unvaccinated low-income women aged 18 to 26 during the summer vacation period.
Human papillomavirus is the most common virus that causes genital infections. It primarily infects the skin and mucous membranes, leading to warts, pre-cancerous lesions, or cancers of the anogenital area and oropharynx.
The available vaccines for this program are HPV 2-valent (Cervarix) and HPV 4-valent (Gardasil). These vaccines are more than 90% effective in preventing major diseases caused by HPV infection, such as cervical cancer, anogenital cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer.
The number of doses required is two if the first dose is administered between ages 12 and 14, and three doses for those aged 15 and older.
The health center emphasizes that vaccination before infection is crucial and recommends getting vaccinated as early as possible. Designated medical institutions can be found on the Immunization Helper website.
An official from Uljugun Public Health Center stated, "We hope that adolescents who had difficulty visiting medical institutions during the school term can use the summer vacation to get vaccinated," and added, "We will do our best to make Uljugun safe from infectious diseases."
