Day 3 of the US Republican National Convention
On the third day of the U.S. Republican National Convention, which is effectively being held as the 'Trump Coronation,' former White House Director Peter Navarro, who had been imprisoned for four months, appeared as a speaker immediately after his release. Known as Donald Trump's economic strategist, he strongly criticized the immigration and economic policies of the Joe Biden administration.
According to CNN's live broadcast, on the 17th (local time), the third day of the Republican National Convention, when Navarro took the stage at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the audience gave a standing ovation and shouted "Fight." Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for refusing to cooperate with the congressional investigation into the January 6 Capitol riot and had been incarcerated, but he came to the convention immediately after his release that day.
Navarro said, "Yes, I came out of the federal prison in Miami this morning," and "Joe Biden and his unjust department (the Department of Justice) put me there." He added, "The January 6 committee told me to save myself and betray former President Trump, but I refused," and claimed, "I went to prison so you don't have to. I am a wake-up call for you." He continued, "They could not break me," and "And they will never break former President Trump."
Known as Trump's strategist, he was also the architect of trade policy during the Trump administration. On this day, he unleashed criticism of the Biden administration's major economic policies and border security policies, which were among the themes of the third day of the convention.
He disparaged the Biden administration's green industrial policies, including the promotion of electric vehicles, as a "green new scam," saying, "They are destroying our industry." He also claimed, "President Biden's inflation is targeting your remaining savings and eating away at your wages." Regarding illegal immigration policies at the southern border, he said, "President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have opened the border to murderers and rapists."
On this day, Navarro also created an unscripted moment by calling his fianc?e onto the stage and kissing her. Voices echoing the phrase "We got this," which his fianc?e had reportedly said to him earlier, were heard from the stage.
The third day of the convention is currently being held under the theme "Make America Strong Once Again," focusing on foreign policy, border, and security issues. The prime-time keynote speaker will be Senator and vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance. Before him, Vance's wife, Usha Vance, and Donald Trump Jr., son of former President Donald Trump, are also scheduled to take the stage soon. Former President Trump entered the venue again that day with a bandage on his ear ahead of their speeches.
