Gumi City Plants Seeds of Agricultural Innovation, Leading the Future of Young Farmers

Three-Day Intensive Training and Field Visits to Strengthen Young Farmers' Capabilities

Education on Agri-Food Startup Trends and Business Plan Writing Provided

Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province held the 2024 Customized Training for Young Farmers (2nd session) at the Agricultural Technology Center for three days starting from the 16th, with about 40 young farmers and prospective farmers in attendance. The program was organized by the aT Agro-Fisheries & Food Distribution Training Institute.

This training followed the first session held on March 27 and aimed to strengthen the capabilities of young farmers.


The three-day program (two days of training and one day of field trip) featured in-depth and practical education by highly qualified experts in each field: On the first day, Choi Naksam, CEO of Good Product Research Institute, gave a lecture on changes in the distribution environment and understanding new markets; on the second day, Lee Sanghyuk, Director of Gyeonggi Agro-Food Venture Startup Center, covered the process of commercializing agri-food technologies, and Jung Myunghoon, CEO of JSS, explained how to write a business plan for startup items; on the third day, Lee Jihyun, CEO of Mwohanong, led a field trip to Goesan County, Chungbuk.


Gumi City is carrying out the 'Agricultural Transformation Project' in line with the central government's goal of fostering 30,000 young farmers. Through comprehensive support including funding, education, and consulting, the city aims to double farm income, create a rural environment where young people want to live, and help ensure stable agricultural startups.


Going forward, the city plans to create various programs to gather opinions and expand support projects, such as expanding specialized education, regularizing roundtable meetings, forming a youth council, and conducting joint benchmarking, so that young people can gain broad experience in agricultural management and acquire new skills.


Lee Deokjae, Director of the Sunsan Branch Office, said, "Even in challenging circumstances, we will focus on providing various support and customized education to help young and talented individuals enter the agricultural sector. We will do our best to lead the future of Gumi agriculture and foster competitive young farmers."
