The '2024 Science Reporters Conference,' where journalists and experts discuss solutions and policy alternatives for scientific issues that the public is curious about, was held on the 18th at the International Conference Room of the Korea Science and Technology Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hosted by the Korea Science Reporters Association (President Yoongha Yoo).
The Science Reporters Conference is recognized as a new model for 'public understanding of science' and 'science communication to the public,' as the media asks questions on behalf of not only the scientific community but also the general public about the latest scientific issues they want and need to know, and engages in in-depth discussions with related experts.
This year's event, marking the 40th anniversary of the association's founding, featured discussions on the themes of 'AI and Science Journalism,' 'Reusable Launch Vehicle Development,' and 'Super-Aged Society and Medical Sector Response.'
Yoongha Yoo, President of the Korea Science Reporters Association, stated, “The Science Reporters Conference selects its themes annually through a public contest, and as the years go by, the participants and proposals have become more diverse and numerous,” emphasizing, “This is an example that shows the role of science media in narrowing the gap in understanding between the scientific community and the general public needs to be more important and active.”
