'Pelosi Cheukgeun' US Democratic Lawmaker Urges Biden to Quit Presidential Run... 19th Resignation Demand

Democratic Party to Force Confirmation of Biden Candidacy Next Month

Adam Schiff, a U.S. Congressman from the Democratic Party representing California, urged President Joe Biden to withdraw his candidacy after Biden's decisive loss in the presidential debate late last month. This brings the number of Democratic House members calling for Biden's resignation to 19.

In a statement on the 17th (local time), Schiff said, "A second term for Donald Trump would undermine the foundation of our democracy," and expressed "serious concerns about whether President Joe Biden can defeat Trump in the November election."

He added, "Withdrawing from the election campaign is President Biden's choice, but I believe it is time for him to pass the torch."

Schiff, a close aide to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is running for the U.S. Senate election this November. Earlier, Pelosi also hinted at reconsideration of Biden's presidential bid.

On the 10th, Pelosi appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" and said, "Whether the president runs is up to him," but added, "Since there is little time left, we are all encouraging him to make a decision."

However, President Biden has dismissed calls within the party to step down and remains determined to pursue his presidential bid. The Democratic Party is expected to hold a virtual vote early next month to confirm Biden as the presidential candidate ahead of the originally scheduled party convention.
