Among Reasons for Marriage, 'Economic Stability' Ranks Lowest
A survey revealed that workers in their 20s and 30s consider an appropriate annual salary for their spouse to be in the range of 40 to 50 million KRW.
WantedLab, an HR company operated by the employment platform 'Wanted,' announced the results of a survey on May 16 under the theme of 'Dating and Marriage of Office Workers.' The survey was conducted over ten days from May 8 to May 17, targeting about 600 office workers.
Among the respondents, 92% were in their 20s and 30s, with the highest proportions being those aged 30 to 34 (37.3%) and 25 to 29 (31.7%). In terms of gender, females (54%) slightly outnumbered males.
When asked, "What is the minimum desired annual salary level for a spouse?" about half of the respondents chose the 40 to 50 million KRW range. Those who selected 40 million KRW accounted for 24.5%, and 50 million KRW for 22.1%. Meanwhile, 24.0% answered that "it does not matter how much they earn."
Among those who expressed a desire to marry, the top reason for wanting to wed was "because I want to continue being with my partner," at 56.7%. This was followed by "because I would feel lonely living alone" (22.6%) and "because I want to have children" (8.4%). The proportion choosing "economic stability" was low at 7.7%.
So, how much do they think is the minimum marriage fund? The most common answer was "between 100 million and 200 million KRW," at 49.4%. Next were "between 300 million and 400 million KRW" (24.3%), "less than 100 million KRW" (14.5%), and "between 500 million and 600 million KRW" (7.1%).
