Jinju Proposed as Venue for 2025 APEC Summit Side Events
On the 16th, Cho Kyu-il, Mayor of Jinju, Gyeongnam, took swift action to globally expand Jinju K-Entrepreneurship and address key local issues.
On this day, Mayor Cho met with Jeong In-kyo, Deputy Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, to discuss various measures for the global expansion of Jinju K-Entrepreneurship.
Mayor Cho emphasized the need for active government support so that the 'Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum' promoted by Jinju City can develop into a leading economic forum representing Korea. He also requested Deputy Minister Jeong's keen interest and attendance at the 'Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum' scheduled to be held from September 29 to October 1 this year.
Mayor Cho Gyuil met with Jung Ingyo, Director General for Trade Negotiations, on the 16th to discuss various measures for the global expansion of Jinju K-Entrepreneurship.
In response, Deputy Minister Jeong In-kyo said, "I agree with spreading Jinju K-Entrepreneurship worldwide as a representative K-content of Korea," and added, "I will do my best to attend the upcoming Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum."
Subsequently, Mayor Cho met with Yong Ho-seong, First Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to propose regional projects such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Jinju Branch and the Western Gyeongnam Music Creation Center. He also requested continued support so that Jinju Silk, which has been exhibited in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil since June, can be introduced in Los Angeles, USA, the Philippines, and Indonesia, and further develop as a representative K-content of Korea.
First Vice Minister Yong Ho-seong stated, "I agree with the need to establish the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Jinju Branch and the Western Gyeongnam Music Creation Center, and will explore various ways to provide support." He also said, "We will actively cooperate so that Jinju Silk, the pride of Jinju, can be exhibited at the G20 Summit to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in November this year, together with Jinju City."
In particular, Mayor Cho proposed to Deputy Minister Jeong and First Vice Minister Yong that Jinju City host side events such as the Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum and the Namgang Yudeung Festival, which are representative cultural contents of Jinju, as part of the '2025 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit' side events.
Both officials expressed their gratitude for Jinju City proactively proposing side events for a national-scale international event, and stated that they would actively consider holding the 2025 APEC Summit side events in Jinju.
Meanwhile, the 2025 APEC Summit will be held in the Bomun Complex area of Gyeongju in November 2025, with around 200 diplomatic, trade, energy, tourism, and SME meetings and side events scheduled to take place in major cities nationwide throughout the year, including the host city.
