Started in 1974, the Jeju Forum marked its 47th session this year. It is held over four days and three nights on Jeju Island. About 600 businesspeople from large and small companies nationwide are attending the forum.
Attendees include Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group and KCCI Chairman, Yang Jae-saeng, Chairman of Busan Chamber of Commerce, Park Yoon-kyung, Chairman of Daegu Chamber of Commerce, Park Joo-bong, Chairman of Incheon Chamber of Commerce, Jung Tae-hee, Chairman of Daejeon Chamber of Commerce, Lee Yoon-chul, Chairman of Ulsan Chamber of Commerce, and other nationwide chamber chairpersons, as well as Park Seung-hee, President of Samsung Electronics, Lee Hyung-hee, SK Communications Committee Chairman, and other vice chairpersons of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce. Also participating are Lee Seung-yeol, CEO of Hana Bank, Lee Chan-ui, Vice Chairman of Samchully, Lee Jae-ha, Chairman of Sambo Motors, and Jung Ki-ok, Chairman of LSC Food.
Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance, gave the forum's opening lecture, sharing policy directions such as the economic policy direction for the second half of the year and the dynamic economy roadmap under the theme 'Recent Economic Situation and Response Directions.'
The forum will feature a series of lectures related to artificial intelligence (AI), the biggest interest of the business community. The 'AI Talk Show' is attracting the most attention. The talk show, conducted live for the public, will feature Chairman Chey Tae-won and Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon, among others. According to KCCI, their communication platform 'SOPLE' received 1,750 questions in advance for the talk show. The live broadcast of the talk show will be streamed on June 19 at 10 a.m. on KCCI's YouTube channel.
Interest in other lectures is also high. Lectures are prepared by Lee Gyo-gu, CEO of AI audio company Supertone (professor at Seoul National University Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology), and Kim I-eul, CEO of Satrec Initiative, which integrates AI and satellites. CEO Kim was one of the key figures behind the launch of Our Star 1. Additionally, Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT, will introduce plans and support measures for fostering new industries such as AI and semiconductors, and Kim Tae-yong, a representative director in the Korean film industry, will lecture on the cultural industry in the AI era.
Communication on various industrial issues will continue. Ahn Deok-geun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, will discuss government trade policies based on global trade experience and the highly sensitive energy policy. Following that, Park Woong-hyun, Director of TBWA KOREA Organizational Culture Research Institute, will speak on 'Creative Leadership Driving Business Innovation,' and Kim Sun-hee, Vice President of Maeil Dairies, will share management stories on how to thrive in the milk market despite the low birthrate era. Jo Yong-heon, Chair Professor at Konkuk University, will give a lecture on 'Korea's Prestigious Families.'
An environmental campaign will also be conducted. During the Jeju Forum, KCCI's ERT (Entrepreneurship Round Table) will collaborate with the corporate environmental campaign platform 'Gapuljiu' to carry out coastal cleanup activities. This project aims to raise awareness of the seriousness of plastic and marine waste discarded in daily life and encourage forum participants to join in solving the problem. Additionally, PET waste generated during the forum will be recycled through a separate process and used as recycled raw materials.
Park Il-jun, Executive Vice Chairman of KCCI, said, "This year's Jeju Forum will be a time not only for insight and healing but also for studying and empathizing with AI," adding, "I hope that businesspeople nationwide will gain tailored wisdom by watching and participating in various discussions."
