Seocho-gu Informs Collection Box Locations via Big Data Platform
Reducing Battery Explosion Concerns through Smooth Collection
Seocho Big Data Platform 'Seocho on the Map' provides locations of collection boxes for waste fluorescent lamps and waste batteries. Provided by Seocho-gu.
"If used batteries are disposed of mixed with general waste in volume-based waste bags, physical friction can cause fires."
"Used batteries contain harmful substances such as mercury and lead, and if processed together with general waste, they can cause environmental pollution."
Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) provides a service to find the locations of used battery collection boxes easily through 'Seocho on the Map' within the Seocho Big Data Platform.
By using this service, residents can quickly identify the locations of used battery collection boxes near their homes or workplaces. The district recently introduced this service to reduce residents' anxiety caused by fires related to batteries and to increase the rate of battery separation and disposal.
To prevent this, used batteries should be separated and disposed of in designated collection boxes. The separated used batteries are finally collected and processed by the Korea Battery Recycling Association. The used battery boxes accept not only general batteries but also lithium secondary batteries (batteries for cameras, wireless vacuum cleaners, drones, portable chargers, etc.).
In 'Seocho on the Map,' you can also check the locations of various convenience facilities such as clothing collection bins and ice pack collection boxes, in addition to used battery collection boxes.
Meanwhile, the district operates the Seocho Big Data Platform to help residents easily access various information. The site includes ▲ 'Seocho on the Map,' which shows various convenience facilities such as used battery collection boxes, cultural tourism, climate environment, and general administration information at a glance ▲ 'Real-time City Status,' which displays disaster safety, traffic information, air quality, and congestion levels in major areas of Seocho-gu ▲ and 'Sectoral Indicators,' which provides basic statistical data in fields such as population, welfare, education, and economy in Seocho-gu.
District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "We will continue to make efforts so that residents can easily use the Seocho Big Data Platform for their daily needs."
