The World's First Specialized Book on Marine Larvae
Published by Global Publisher CRC Press
Kim Saekwon, Professor Emeritus at Pukyong National University, has published the world's first specialized book on marine larvae.
This book, published by the globally renowned publisher CRC Press, comprehensively covers the latest research trends on marine larvae, including their distribution, conservation, growth and nutrition, toxicity testing using larvae, anticancer effects of components isolated from larvae, biotechnological applications of larvae, and medical applications of secondary metabolites from larvae, providing both fundamental concepts and expert knowledge on the subject.
Larvae refer to the stage before an organism becomes a fully mature adult, meaning they are not yet fully grown. Animals that undergo indirect development, such as insects, amphibians, and some marine animals, experience a larval stage in their life cycle. The appearance of larvae is generally markedly different from that of adults, and depending on the species, larvae may possess unique structures and specialized organs not found in adults.
In particular, useful metabolites that can improve various diseases have been discovered from the larvae of several marine organisms, raising expectations for future applications. As a result, the publication of this specialized book is drawing attention for its potential to contribute to the utilization and applied research of marine larvae.
