Operating the Korean Pavilion at the World's Largest 'China Baby Products Expo (CBME CHINA)'
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA announced that they will operate a Korean Pavilion at the "China Baby Products Expo (CBME CHINA 2024)" held in Shanghai, China, for three days starting from the 17th.
This exhibition is the largest in the world in the baby products sector. Along with the "ABC Kids Expo" in Las Vegas, USA, and "Kind+Jugend" held in Cologne, Germany, it is regarded as one of the world's top three exhibitions. First held in 2001, this exhibition is held once a year in Shanghai, China, and the Korean Pavilion has been operated since 2014, making this the 9th edition. Approximately 3,500 companies and about 4,000 brands are expected to participate in this year's exhibition.
This year, 20 domestic companies handling baby hygiene products, cosmetics, health functional foods, and more will participate and operate booths at the Korean Pavilion. This is nearly double the size compared to last year's Korean Pavilion, which had 11 participating companies. KOTRA plans to focus on expanding export channels for participating companies through marketing support using the trade and investment big data platform TriBIG, as well as arranging on-site consultations.
Meanwhile, although China's birth population was 9.02 million last year, showing a continuous decline since recording 17.86 million in 2016, the size of the baby products consumer market is growing due to the increase in China's per capita disposable income. According to Statista statistics, China's maternity and childcare products market grew by 10.8% in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 3.46 trillion yuan, and the market size is expected to reach 5.02 trillion yuan by 2026. This indicates that China's maternity and childcare products industry is continuously expanding, and investment and interest in this market are increasing.
Jung Young-soo, head of KOTRA Shanghai Trade Center, said, "Despite the decline in birth rates, the Chinese baby products market continues to grow," adding, "We hope that our companies will establish a foothold to enter the Chinese baby products market at this exhibition and further rebuild networks with global companies worldwide to seize opportunities to obtain high-quality market information."
