[Exclusive] Director An Taejin, the 'Owl', to Direct 'Signal' Season 2

Pre-production to be completed by the end of the year at the earliest, followed by filming

Director Ahn Tae-jin, who directed the film Owl (2022), will take the helm for Signal Season 2. According to the broadcasting industry on the 16th, pre-production is expected to be completed and filming to begin by the end of the year at the earliest.

Signal is a drama that aired on tvN in 2016. It tells the story of detectives from the past and present communicating across time through a walkie-talkie to solve long-unsolved cases. The drama starred actors Lee Je-hoon, Kim Hye-soo, and Cho Jin-woong. Based on its intriguing premise, well-structured narrative, and outstanding performances by the lead actors, it achieved a peak viewership rating of 13%, marking a great success for a cable channel drama.

The news of a sequel after eight years was announced last March in Rome, Italy. Jang Won-seok, CEO of B.A. Entertainment, revealed at an event hosted by La Sapienza University titled "The Power of K-Content: The Secret Behind the Korean Film and Drama Boom - A Meeting with Writers, Actors, and Producers" that writer Kim Eun-hee is preparing the script for Signal Season 2. CEO Jang and writer Kim previously collaborated on the SBS drama Awaken and the Netflix series Kingdom: Ashin of the North, both aired last year.

Another collaboration is taking shape with the addition of director Ahn Tae-jin. He swept the Best New Director awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards, the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards, the Grand Bell Awards, and the Blue Dragon Film Awards last year for Owl. Praised by critics for his high-level thrills and suspense and for imbuing existential meaning into the witnessing of truth, he also achieved box office success by attracting 3,329,547 viewers in theaters.

Supporting this new challenge, in addition to B.A. Entertainment, are Studio Dragon and Baram Pictures, who led the production of the previous season. A source stated, "We are currently coordinating schedules with actors and staff."
