100 Won Discount for Electronic Receipts... S-OIL Sees Surge in Carbon Neutrality Point Customers

First Oil Company’s Exclusive Fueling App Surpasses 50,000 Users

In Collaboration with Environmental Corporation, Expanding Gas Stations with E-Receipts

S-OIL has become the first domestic oil refiner to introduce electronic receipts, resulting in a significant increase in customers receiving carbon neutrality points as a bonus.

S-OIL (CEO Anwar Al Hejazi) announced on the 16th that the number of customers receiving carbon neutrality points linked to electronic receipts has surpassed 50,000.

Launched in March last year, S-OIL's electronic receipt service is an eco-friendly campaign in collaboration with the Korea Environment Corporation, issuing 100 won worth of carbon neutrality points for each receipt issued as a lifestyle practice initiative.

According to S-OIL, the number of customers participating in the carbon neutrality point program through the fuel management app 'MY S-OIL', which features the electronic receipt function, increased from 28,000 cases last year to over 50,000 recently, marking an 80% growth in just one year.

Thanks to this popularity, the number of customers who have installed the 'MY S-OIL' app has also surged from 440,000 last year to 650,000. S-OIL has expanded the number of gas stations where customers can use the dedicated MY S-OIL app from 351 in March last year to 1,200, enhancing customer convenience and supporting eco-friendly practices.

100 Won Discount for Electronic Receipts... S-OIL Sees Surge in Carbon Neutrality Point Customers

An S-OIL official stated, "It is known that reducing one paper receipt can decrease carbon emissions by 1.7g and waste output by 0.7g, which is driving increased customer interest in electronic receipts in line with the eco-friendly trend."

He added, "Since electronic receipts are managed through the dedicated MY S-OIL app, there are no concerns about personal information leakage. In addition, customers can use the 'Quick Refueling' payment service without a physical card and manage their fuel performance along with bonus points, making it popular among customers who prefer smart consumption patterns."

According to the Ministry of Environment, 12.8 billion paper receipts are issued annually in Korea, requiring the felling of 120,000 trees and resulting in over 22,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The waste generated from receipts also amounts to 9,358 tons.

For this reason, consumers are encouraged to participate in the 'carbon neutrality point' program, which provides incentives that can be used like cash for each electronic receipt issued in daily life.

In March last year, S-OIL became the first oil refiner to collaborate with the Korea Environment Corporation to enable customers to receive carbon neutrality points. Customers using the 'MY S-OIL' app can opt to receive electronic receipts and register on the carbon neutrality point website to earn 100 won per transaction, up to a maximum of 70,000 won per year, which can be used like cash.

An S-OIL official said, "We plan to continuously promote the campaign to expand the use of electronic receipts, considering both environmental protection and customer convenience. In the future, we will further communicate with customers practicing eco-friendly activities in daily life and actively implement ESG management."
