The main perpetrator of the drug beverage incident in the Gangnam academy district was sentenced to 23 years in prison in the first trial, and the prosecution has appealed.
On the 15th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had filed an appeal against the first trial verdict for Lee Mo (26), who was indicted on charges including violation of the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances). Lee's side also filed an appeal on the same day.
The prosecution stated, "The defendant used an unspecified number of minors as profit-making tools to make them consume drug beverages. The amount of methamphetamine used per bottle of the drug beverage was about 3.3 times the adult single dose," and emphasized, "Defendant Lee was the mastermind who planned and directed all the crimes and was arrested after a long period of fleeing overseas."
Earlier, considering that the accomplices involved in the drug beverage crime were sentenced to 10 to 18 years in prison each and that the final appeal is ongoing, the prosecution demanded a life sentence for Lee.
