Record Citizen Participation Since 2007 Citizen Academy Launch

Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, successfully held the 78th Yangsan Citizen Academy on the 11th at the Yangsan Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater, drawing great interest from over 1,000 Yangsan citizens.

The purpose of the Yangsan Citizen Academy is to provide citizens with a higher level of lifelong learning opportunities by inviting renowned figures who are not easily accessible in everyday life. For this session, Professor Kim Sangwook from the Department of Physics at Kyung Hee University, who is well-known in both physics and the humanities, was invited to satisfy citizens’ desire for lifelong learning, resulting in high satisfaction.

The special lecture was held under the theme “What Physics Has Taught Us About the Universe and Humanity.” Since the first Yangsan Citizen Academy in 2007, this session attracted the largest crowd, with all seats in the Grand Theater filled 30 minutes before the lecture began. Due to citizens’ requests to listen to the lecture even from the lobby, temporary seats were arranged there, and the lecture was broadcast on the electronic display, showing the enthusiastic response from the citizens.

Professor Kim Sangwook explained facts about the universe proven by physicists and discussed the universe and humanity from the perspective of physics. He also raised questions about whether humanity can predict the future based on this knowledge. The lecture concluded with a lively Q&A session, receiving an enthusiastic response from the citizens.

One citizen who attended the special lecture shared, “I became interested in physics after reading Professor Kim Sangwook’s books, and it was a very meaningful experience to be able to attend his lecture in person thanks to this wonderful opportunity provided by Yangsan City.”
