Ministry of Education and Busan City to Provide 7.3 Billion Won Over 5 Years

Cultivating Next-Generation Power Semiconductor Experts

Dong-Eui University recently announced on the 15th that it has been selected for the "2024 Advanced Industry Talent Development Bootcamp" project, supported by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.

The Advanced Industry Talent Development Bootcamp is a program jointly developed and operated by universities and companies to quickly train talent required in advanced industries such as semiconductors, secondary batteries, and displays. It offers short-term intensive training courses and employment support.

With this selection, Dong-Eui University will receive 7.35 billion KRW in support from the Ministry of Education and Busan Metropolitan City over five years until February 2029, and will focus on nurturing talent in the next-generation power semiconductor substrate and packaging sectors.

For this project, Dong-Eui University will establish a new Power Semiconductor Convergence major and operate micro-degree, minor, and double major completion programs.

Students from the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Electronic Engineering will participate in this project.

In addition, to provide field-oriented education, more than 30 companies including Scenic, SK Siltron, Hyosung Electric, and IQ Lab will participate in the education and program operations, with some companies offering employment connections for participating students.

Notably, Dong-Eui University will have Professor Lee Wonjae from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, formerly of the Semiconductor New Technology Research Center at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, as the director. Four former Samsung Electronics employees, as well as professors with backgrounds in companies such as LG Semiconductor and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, will directly participate in the education.

Dong-Eui University President Han Suhwan stated, "The power semiconductor field is an area that Busan is striving to develop as a future core industry. Recently, with the formation of an industrial cluster, outstanding companies from across the country are relocating to Busan. Through this project selection, we will do our utmost to foster active industry-academia cooperation and cultivate top talent in the power semiconductor field so that Busan can grow as a hub city for power semiconductors."
