Supporting Underprivileged Children During Lifetime
A woman in her 50s who collapsed due to an unexpected accident while on her way to deliver a meal to a neighbor donated life to five people before passing away.
On the 15th, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that Song Kyung-soon (59), who was brain-dead last March, donated her heart, liver, kidneys (both sides), and lungs (both sides) through brain-dead organ donation at Catholic University Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital.
The deceased had heard in early March that a neighbor in her neighborhood was unable to eat and slipped on the stairs while on her way to deliver a meal. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment but never regained consciousness and ultimately became brain-dead. Her family decided to donate her organs with the hope that if she could not wake up and be with them again, she would live and breathe somewhere else.

Born as the fourth of six children (three sons and three daughters) in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, the deceased was lively and enjoyed cooking and sharing food with those around her. She had a bright and confident personality and took the lead in helping neighbors in need whenever she had time. She also had a kind nature, having supported underprivileged children during her lifetime.
The deceased’s daughter, Lim Eun-sol, said, "I hope Mom is free from pain in heaven, makes many friends, and lives happily," adding, "I am truly grateful that she was my mother. I love you," as her final farewell. Lee Sam-yeol, director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency, said, "There is nothing more difficult than letting go of a loved one," and expressed gratitude to the donor and the donor’s family for deciding to donate to save other lives amid their grief.
