Judicial Measures to Remove Opponent Trump
All Failed but Created an Atmosphere of Attack
Trump Appears Life-Threatened from Outside Perspective
Russia criticized the Biden administration, holding it responsible for the shooting incident involving former President Donald Trump at a campaign event.
On the 14th (local time), according to major foreign media including The Daily Telegraph, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, told reporters, "We do not believe that the current U.S. government organized an attempt to remove or assassinate former President Trump," but pointed out, "However, the atmosphere surrounding former President Trump has stirred up the problems the United States is facing today."
Spokesperson Peskov claimed, "There have been numerous attempts to push former President Trump out of politics," adding, "Watching all attempts to remove or tarnish former President Trump from the political stage, including a series of judicial measures involving courts and prosecutors, fail, external observers like us felt that his life seemed to be in danger."
Previously, Russia has maintained the stance that the four criminal trials against former President Trump are an "abuse of the judicial system to eliminate a political opponent." Russian President Vladimir Putin also defended Trump last month when he was found guilty in the 'sexual misconduct hush money' trial, calling it an "indictment without direct evidence" and stating that "the judicial system is being used in the internal political struggle in the United States." However, on this day, Peskov added that President Putin has no plans to call former President Trump.
There were also claims that the attack was due to former President Trump's stance on Ukraine. Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma, said via Telegram on the same day, "The U.S. policy of interfering in other countries' affairs is the cause of the attack on Trump," emphasizing, "Former President Trump is one of the few Western politicians who publicly mentioned the need to stop military support to Ukraine."
A sarcastic comment targeting the Biden administration was also made. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a press release that day, "It would be better for the U.S. to use the money spent on supplying weapons to Ukraine to strengthen police forces and law enforcement services." She also mentioned, "When all the schemes to get rid of a troublesome president (candidate) fail, the old days' Lee Harvey Oswald tends to appear." Lee Harvey Oswald was the assassin of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who died in 1963, and despite the official conclusion of a lone gunman, conspiracy theories continue to persist.
Russia interprets former President Trump's political prominence as evidence of public dissatisfaction with the Biden administration's support for Ukraine. Former President Trump recently reaffirmed his position several times, including during a presidential debate, declaring, "Before taking office on January 20, as president-elect, I will end the war between Putin and Zelensky," signaling his intention to quickly resolve the Ukraine war. In response, President Putin said he is "taking those remarks very seriously."
