Solving Public Issues with AI... Budget 7.7 Billion Won
Chairman Gojin "We Must Export Successful Models"
Artificial intelligence (AI) will inform young farmers about the latest agricultural technologies, and labor inspectors will use AI to process tasks quickly and accurately as part of government projects.
The Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government and the Ministry of Science and ICT, together with the National Information Society Agency (NIA), will promote the development project of a super-large AI public service in early 2024.
On the 15th, Go Jin, chairman of the Digital Platform Government Committee, held a signing ceremony with the demand ministries and agencies for the project and AI supply companies to review specific project goals and implementation plans.
The super-large AI service development project’s budget has been significantly increased from 400 million KRW last year to 7.7 billion KRW this year. Furthermore, to enable AI utilization services to be created in various public sectors, the project is divided into three areas: public general-purpose, public specialized, and issue resolution.
In the public general-purpose area, the tasks include ▲super-large AI-based integrated research and development (participation by the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences and AhnLab Cloudmate consortium), ▲smart fire safety service (Seoul Fire & Disaster Headquarters and Iris Frontier consortium), and ▲generative AI-based defense facility construction administrative support (Ministry of National Defense and SQI Soft consortium).
In the public specialized area, the projects include ▲AI labor inspector support (Ministry of Employment and Labor and Maum AI), ▲young farmer specialized service (Rural Development Administration and Naver Cloud consortium), and ▲super-large AI-based patent examination support (Korean Intellectual Property Office and Saltlux consortium).
For issue resolution, the selected projects are ▲super-large AI multimodal service for communication support for persons with disabilities (special schools for the disabled and AirPass consortium) and ▲super-large AI-based early detection support service for slow learners (Chonnam National University Children’s Hospital and Jaranda consortium).
Chairman Go Jin said, "In the AI war between countries, we must take the winning move by implementing a government-exclusive super-large AI model and exporting a successful model," adding, "Please do your best to make it a model case of AI services in the public sector."
Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT said, "As opportunities for the public to enjoy innovative services based on super-large AI, including in the public domain, expand further, I hope each institution will do their best."
