"A Father of Two Daughters and Former Firefighter"
"Attends Church Weekly and Loves the Community"
The victim who was shot at the scene of former U.S. President Donald Trump's attack was revealed to be a man in his 50s and a former firefighter.
On the 14th (local time), Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced in a press briefing that the victim who died in the shooting during former President Trump's rally was former firefighter Cory Comparatore (50). It was reported that Comparatore was with his wife and two daughters at the time of the incident.
Governor Shapiro explained, "Cory threw himself to protect his family when the shooting occurred," adding, "He was a father of daughters and a firefighter." He also recalled, "He attended church every Sunday, loved his community, and especially loved his family."
It was reported that the family of Comparatore gave permission to share his story publicly. His family reportedly asked others to share the fact that "their husband died a hero."
Randy Reimer, the volunteer fire chief of the area, emphasized to local media including the Associated Press, "Comparatore was always a really good person who tried to help others." Comparatore had worked as a firefighter for over 20 years.
A fundraising page was also set up to support the bereaved family. On the American crowdfunding site GoFundMe, donations had reportedly reached about $180,000 (approximately 250 million KRW) by the afternoon of the same day.
Meanwhile, local police stated that one person among those at the rally died and two others were seriously injured in the shooting. Former President Trump was wounded by a bullet that penetrated the upper part of his right ear.
The identities of the other injured have not been disclosed. However, Republican Congressman Ronny Jackson said that his nephew was shot and injured at the rally, adding, "Fortunately, his injuries are not serious."
Congressman Jackson described the situation, saying, "My family was seated near the front, close to where former President Trump was speaking. When people heard the gunshots, my nephew felt something graze his neck, realized he was bleeding from his neck."
The shooter was killed at the scene. The FBI confirmed that the shooter was Thomas Matthew Crooks, a white male in his 20s residing in Pennsylvania. His specific motive for the crime has not been disclosed.
