Photos of Incinerating General Cold Medicine and Others
Kim Yo-jong, Deputy Director of the Workers' Party of Korea, warned on the 14th that those responsible must be prepared to pay the price, as leaflets against North Korea were once again found near the North Korean border area.
In a statement released through the Korean Central News Agency on the same day, Deputy Director Kim said, "Today, I received reports that dirty South Korean trash leaflets and objects were once again found near the border of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and even in some central areas," adding, "Dirty filth was discovered in 17 locations including Jangpung County in Hwanghaebuk-do and its adjacent areas."
Recently, North Korea has been responding to leaflets distributed by South Korean defector groups by sending balloons filled with filth. North Korea released balloons containing trash four times from May 28 to June 9, and also sent filth balloons on the nights of June 24 and 25 consecutively.
Deputy Director Kim stated, "Currently, various military units near the border, the Worker-Peasant Red Guards (equivalent to reserve forces), safety, and security agencies are conducting comprehensive searches, incinerating the discovered filth according to enemy waste disposal regulations, and are also preparing for the possibility of additional discoveries."
She also emphasized, "Despite our repeated warnings, South Korean trash continues this petty and dirty prank," and added, "As already warned, those who engage in such acts will face harsher criticism from their own citizens."
Furthermore, she said, "We have sufficiently introduced our response policy in this situation," and stated, "South Korean elements will become exhausted by these troublesome matters and must be prepared to pay the price for their dirty deeds."
On the same day as Deputy Director Kim's statement, North Korea released photos through the Korean Central News Agency showing objects believed to be leaflets against North Korea scattered in their territory. They also revealed photos of objects, including what is presumed to be comprehensive cold medicine sent along with the leaflets, being incinerated. This is the first time North Korean authorities have publicly released photos of leaflets fallen in their area amid the recent inter-Korean tensions surrounding leaflets and filth balloons.
