Medical School Regular Admission Scores: Seoul National University Ranks 3rd... Guess Which Schools Are 1st and 2nd

Catholic University Ranks 1st with 99.33 Points... Ulsan University 2nd, Seoul National University 3rd
Stable Application Trend Noted Amid Last Year's Difficult Exam

Analysis of the general admission scores for medical schools in last year's regular admissions revealed that Catholic University ranked first, while Seoul National University ranked third.

On the 14th, Jongro Academy announced the results of an analysis of the 2024 regular admission scores for 31 medical schools nationwide on the university admission information portal 'Eodiga'. In this analysis, 8 of the 39 medical schools nationwide were excluded due to different score reporting standards.

Catholic University, which had the highest admission score, recorded an average of 99.33 points in the Korean language, mathematics, and inquiry areas of the CSAT. Ulsan University ranked second with 99.17 points. Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, and Sungkyunkwan University tied for third place with 99 points.

Typically, medical school scores are known to be highest in the order of 'Seoul National University - Yonsei University - Catholic University - Ulsan University - Sungkyunkwan University,' but last year's difficult CSAT led to a trend among medical school applicants to apply more conservatively, resulting in a reversal of admission outcomes.

Accordingly, Ulsan University rose from 10th place the previous year to 2nd place, and some regional medical schools also entered the top 10.

The admission scores for the regional talent track in regular admissions, which is generally considered a kind of 'regional league' with lower scores than nationwide recruitment, were actually different.

The regional talent track is a selection process conducted by 26 universities outside the Seoul metropolitan area (Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon), targeting high school graduates within their respective regions.

Jongro Academy analyzed the admission scores of the regional talent track for 19 universities with the same score disclosure standards among the 26 regional medical schools, finding that all five regions?Honam, Daegu·Gyeongbuk, Jeju, Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam, and Chungcheong?recorded high average scores ranging from 97.01 to 97.92 points.

Excluding the Gangwon region medical schools that do not conduct the regional talent track, the admission cutoff scores for the regional talent track in the Honam and Chungcheong regions were 97.92 and 97.01 points respectively, higher than those for nationwide selection.

Among the 19 universities analyzed, the lowest admission score for the regional talent track was 96.33 points. The nationwide selection cutoff was 95.33 points, one point lower than the regional talent track. A score of 96.33 corresponds to the top 3.67%. Considering that the top grade in the CSAT relative evaluation corresponds to the top 4%, this means that even students with an average top grade may be rejected.

Lim Seong-ho, CEO of Jongro Academy, analyzed, "Even for regional medical schools, if there are prestigious autonomous private high schools within the region, the regional talent track scores may be relatively high."

He added, "Since the admission cutoffs for nationwide selection and the regional talent track at regional medical schools are similar, local students need to consider both tracks when formulating their application strategies. If many top-tier students are admitted through the early regional talent track, it is expected that admission scores for both nationwide and regional talent tracks in regular admissions will decline."
