Equipped with Lawn Plaza, Barefoot Walking Trail, and Reed Cluster Area
An abandoned urban vacant lot in Yubang-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City has been transformed into an eco-friendly resting area featuring a walking trail and a silver grass habitat.
Yongin City announced on the 14th that it has completed the creation and opening of the 'Yubang-dong Urban Forest,' covering an area of 8,184㎡ at 234-2 Yubang-dong, Cheoin-gu.

This site, adjacent to the Yongin IC on the Yeongdong Expressway, is a vacant lot near Gyeongan Stream and has been a place where local residents have consistently requested the establishment of a park.
The city actively reflected residents' requests in the design and created an urban forest in the form of a small park with a lawn plaza and walking trails. Around the lawn plaza, trees such as zelkova and Japanese snowbell were planted, and a 480m-long bare-foot walking trail made of loess soil was constructed in a circular path. Along Gyeongan Stream, a 120m section was developed with a deck road and a wetland-type silver grass habitat.
Solar-powered landscape lighting and smart benches were also installed in the lawn yard and walking trails. In particular, the moon and rabbit-shaped landscape lights installed in the center of the lawn plaza serve as sculptures during the day and transform into lights at night, providing park visitors with a unique visual experience.
Earlier, the city was selected through a public contest for the 'Han River Basin Waterfront Green Space Creation' project by the Han River Basin Environmental Office in April and August last year, and the 'Small Park Environmental Creation' project by Gyeonggi Province for the creation of Yubang-dong Urban Forest. Through this, it received 600 million KRW in national and provincial funding and spent 300 million KRW of city funds to complete the project. Since the urban forest site is owned by the Ministry of Environment, it also achieved a cost-saving effect by avoiding 2.7 billion KRW in land acquisition expenses.
A city official said, "We will continue to do our best to increase residents' resting spaces by utilizing public land around Gyeongan Stream."
