Discussion on Friendship and Cooperation Between Busan and Danang at City Hall, 2 PM on the 12th
Mayor Park: "Expecting Mutual Growth as the World's Most Desirable Cities to Visit"
On the afternoon of July 12 at 2:00 PM, Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon met with Nguyen Van Quang, Party Secretary of Da Nang, in the International Protocol Room at City Hall to exchange views on matters of mutual interest and future cooperation.
The Da Nang delegation, led by Nguyen Van Quang, Party Secretary of Da Nang, visited Busan for a two-day, one-night schedule from July 11 to 12. This meeting took place after the delegation participated in a Da Nang tourism promotion event at the Asti Hotel Busan on the morning of the 12th, followed by a visit to City Hall.
First, Mayor Park welcomed the Da Nang delegation, noting the similarities between the two cities as marine and tourism hubs that have developed alongside mountains and the sea.
Mayor Park congratulated the successful hosting of the Da Nang tourism promotion event attended by the delegation prior to the meeting. He expressed hope for fruitful outcomes from Da Nang's visit, given its interest in the development of advanced industries such as information and communication technology (ICT) as well as tourism. “Just as Da Nang is renowned as a tourism city, Busan, as the first international tourism city of Korea, was the only Asian city selected by the world-renowned travel media National Geographic Traveler last year as one of the ‘25 breathtaking places to visit,’ and the ‘2024 Michelin Guide Busan’ has been published, further enhancing our reputation in tourism,” he said. “I hope both cities will continue to cooperate based on these strengths in tourism and grow together as ‘must-visit cities in the world.’”
Mayor Park also acknowledged the potential for industrial cooperation between Vietnam, the world’s second-largest coffee producer, and Busan, which hosted the ‘World Barista Championship’ in May this year as a ‘coffee city.’ He further mentioned Busan’s achievement of ranking 15th globally and 3rd in Asia in last year’s ‘Global Smart City Index (SCI),’ suggesting possibilities for exchange in advanced industries such as ICT.
In response, Nguyen Van Quang, Party Secretary of Da Nang, said, “Da Nang is planning an event themed ‘Busan’s Films’ for the ‘Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF),’ which has been held annually since 2023. We would like to learn from the excellent example of the Busan International Film Festival.” He added, “A friendly relationship between Busan and Da Nang in various fields, including culture and tourism industries, will greatly contribute to the development of both cities.”
Mayor Park concluded the meeting by saying, “Busan and Da Nang have many similarities and can be partners that create synergy through long-term cooperation. I look forward to more exchanges and cooperation in the future.”
