Gyeonggi-do's First Payment of 'Childcare Opportunity Income'... 25 Village Communities Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province has announced that 25 childcare communities participated in the recruitment of participants for the ‘Childcare Opportunity Income,’ which provides 200,000 KRW per person per month. Gyeonggi Province aims to provide Childcare Opportunity Income to 100 communities this year.

Gyeonggi Province revealed on the 14th that, following the recruitment of participants for the Childcare Opportunity Income from the 8th to the 12th, 25 childcare communities participated. This program offers up to 200,000 KRW per person per month to a maximum of five people per community who participate in community childcare activities for more than 30 hours per month.

The Childcare Opportunity Income is a reward given to encourage voluntary childcare activities in the private sector and to motivate participants. It is the first case recognizing the social value of community childcare activities that complement the school- and institution-centered childcare system gaps.

Applicants for the Childcare Opportunity Income must be communities of five or more people gathered to care for children aged 12 or younger in elementary school. Communities can include voluntary resident groups for non-profit purposes, organizations or corporations, social cooperatives, small libraries, and more. However, they must have a dedicated childcare space of at least 10 pyeong (approximately 33 square meters). Participation is possible if there is at least one month of activity performance as of the application date.

Park Yeon-gyeong, Director of the Social Economy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Despite the short recruitment period, the participation of 25 communities, which is 25% of the initial project goal of 100 communities, indicates high public interest in the Childcare Opportunity Income," adding, "We will strive to ensure the Childcare Opportunity Income is quickly established."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province will accept applications through Gyeonggi Minwon 24 (gg24.gg.go.kr) from the 1st to the 10th of every month starting in August.
