Designation of No-Drinking Zones at Jinkorang Park in Junggok-dong and Mugunghwa Park in Guui-dong in May
Guidance Period Until August 31, 100,000 KRW Fine Imposed from September
Two Additional Parks Designated Following Jangdokgol Park as the First No-Drinking Zone Last Year
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) designated Ginkgo Park in Junggok-dong (143 Ginkgo-ro) and Mugunghwa Park in Guui-dong (12 Gwangnaru-ro 52-gil) as alcohol-free zones in May. This follows the designation of Jangdokgol Park as an alcohol-free zone last October, adding two more locations this year.
Ginkgo Park and Mugunghwa Park have been sites of continuous complaints related to drinking behavior. Management was needed due to issues such as alcohol bottles, food waste, and disturbances.
Additionally, since these parks are frequented by children and families, concerns about safety accidents and crime required strong measures.
Accordingly, the district designated these two parks as alcohol-free zones on May 20 to protect residents from damages caused by indiscriminate drinking. Those caught drinking in these zones will be fined 100,000 KRW.
Drinking behavior includes ▲possessing an opened alcohol bottle or drinking alcohol ▲carrying or drinking alcohol in containers other than official liquor containers.
The district plans to conduct an educational period until August 31 and will begin strict enforcement and fines from September 1.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Children’s parks are places for kids to play and for residents to relax, so we designated alcohol-free zones to prevent drinking and create a pleasant park environment. We will continue to work hard to ensure residents enjoy a more comfortable life through various policies aimed at enhancing community happiness.”
Meanwhile, the district designated Jangdokgol Park (46 Achasan-ro 40-gil) as the first alcohol-free park last October and has been conducting enforcement activities, including issuing two fines for violations.
