Introducing Struggling Self-Employed Workers During COVID-19
Promoting Chicken Restaurant Owner Battling Rare Disease
YouTuber Jjuyang revealed that she suffered years of assault from her ex-boyfriend and agency CEO, but her continued good deeds amid the ordeal are drawing attention. This time, her help for a chicken restaurant owner couple battling rare cancer is being spotlighted again.
In December 2020, Jjuyang personally visited a chicken restaurant struggling due to COVID-19, purchased a large amount of chicken, and introduced it to her subscribers through a live mukbang. About a month ago, the owner couple shared an update after nearly four years, saying, "The cancer has recurred, but we are doing well."
At the time, Jjuyang introduced the chicken restaurant located in Nokyang-dong, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi Province, in a video titled "I bought all the whole chickens in the store," saying, "The owner is very sick with a rare cancer. He has undergone many major surgeries and is having a hard time. It’s unfortunate that COVID-19 broke out now. I ask those who are hungry to please pay attention."
The owner couple said, "We opened the chicken restaurant to make a living, but as COVID-19 worsened, it became difficult to operate." When they were dating, the husband was diagnosed with a rare cancer called 'liposarcoma,' but the two got married, had a child, and built a cozy family. Since then, the cancer recurred three times, and the husband had to undergo a total of five surgeries. The husband, who used to drive a cargo truck, sold the truck and opened the chicken restaurant by borrowing money through an introduction from an acquaintance, but confessed that every day since COVID-19 feels like walking a tightrope.
The wife said, "It’s upsetting that business is still slow, but I hope my husband doesn’t get stressed." The husband tearfully said, "There are days when not a single delivery goes out," and added, "My wife is not someone who should be handing out flyers in the cold winter, but she’s suffering because she married the wrong man."
Jjuyang visited the store and ordered, "Give me all the chicken you have now." As she conducted a live broadcast mukbang and shared the owner couple’s story, delivery orders poured in. Jjuyang concluded the video saying, "Everyone is having a hard time because of COVID-19, but I hope we all overcome this together."
About a month ago, the owner couple left a comment on the video updating their status: "We came back because we wanted to see our video again after a long time and left a comment because of all the support. We are doing well," and added, "My husband’s cancer recurred again, and he recently had his seventh surgery. Fortunately, he is recovering after surgery in the hospital. Although he hasn’t been discharged yet, he is still bravely enduring. Thank you for your support."
Recently, Jjuyang revealed that she suffered illegal filming, assault, and financial extortion from her ex-boyfriend and former agency CEO Mr. A from over four years ago. There were also allegations that she was blackmailed by a so-called ‘cyber wrecker’ group called the ‘Wrecker Union’ to not expose her past, resulting in money being extorted from her.
Since 2019, Jjuyang has been making regular monthly donations of 3,157,000 KRW to Sangnok Orphanage. She did not stop donating even during the period when she temporarily halted her broadcasting activities due to a controversy over undisclosed paid promotions. On the 10th, to celebrate reaching 10 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, she donated 200 million KRW to the international relief and development organization World Vision. She has also donated to flower farms, fire stations, hospitals, and more.
