As the humid and sweltering heat continues, there have been cases where senior centers, which were previously closed on weekends, have started operating.

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul announced that it will operate 124 senior centers in the district on weekends for the first time among autonomous districts, from the 13th of this month to September 8th, providing a cool resting place for vulnerable elderly living alone during the heatwave.

Lee Seung-ro, the mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "Senior centers are the most accessible places for the elderly on hot and humid days," adding, "We decided to operate on weekends so that elderly people exhausted by the heat can spend a safe summer under cool breezes at the senior centers."
