Busan Library to Host Special Exhibition of Real Landscape Paintings by Author Park Hansem from July 16 to August 18
‘Conversation with the Author’ Program to Be Held at Busan Library Hyeyum Madang on the 13th at 2 PM
Busan Library will hold a special exhibition titled "Respirer: Gaps in the Landscape" at the exhibition hall on the 2nd floor of Busan Library from July 16 to August 18.
As the boundaries between media are disappearing in contemporary art due to pluralism, this exhibition has been organized to convey to visitors the unity of mind and brushwork of artist Park Hansem, who creates traditional ink paintings using paper, brush, and ink, as well as the aesthetics of the flat perspective and the beauty of emphasis and omission on the canvas.
The main artist of this special exhibition, Park Hansem, is an ink painter who depicts real landscapes using the materials of paper, brush, and ink.
By departing from the three traditional perspectives of landscape painting and choosing a single viewpoint called "Pyongwon" (flat perspective), he brings a new aesthetic to realistic landscape painting. In contrast to the delicate and unique handling of the brush, his work is characterized by bold omission of the background, resulting in exaggerated blank spaces.
Unlike Western brushes, Eastern brushes are longer, making it difficult to control the amount of water and speed. Therefore, the artist's mind and the movement of the brush must be perfectly unified.
The exhibition is open free of charge to all citizens interested. It is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, except on Mondays and public holidays when the library is closed.
Kang Eunhee, Director of Busan Library, stated, "We will continue to strive to create happy moments for citizens visiting Busan Library through high-quality special exhibitions."
As a related event, a "Conversation with the Artist" program will be held at 2 PM on the 13th at Heyum Madang on the first basement floor of Busan Library.
Participants can listen to explanations of the works and discussions on art, and registration is available on the Busan Library website. For more details, please contact the library by phone.
