Gwangjin-gu Employee Saves Elderly Person Bleeding and Collapsed in Parking Lot

A public official from Gwangjin-gu Office (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) saved a man in his 70s who collapsed in the office parking lot. The hero is Son Yong-taek, the head of the Vehicle Support Office at Gwangjin-gu Office.

According to the district, just after 10 a.m. on the 4th, a man in his 70s, Mr. Song, who was walking through the Gwangjin-gu Office parking lot, suddenly collapsed with a "thud" sound. Mr. Song fell to the ground, bleeding from his head and having seizures.

At that moment, Director Son rushed over, supported Mr. Song’s neck, and began to stop the bleeding on his head with his hands. He also asked a nearby colleague to call 119 (emergency services).

The colleague contacted the 119 fire station and brought a towel to help stop the bleeding, handing it to Director Son, who was applying pressure with his hands. Director Son wrapped the patient’s wound with the towel and continued to control the bleeding. A few minutes later, the 119 ambulance arrived. Only then did Director Son let out a deep sigh and was able to stand up while looking at his blood-soaked hands and clothes. The patient was then loaded into the ambulance and transported to Nokseong Hospital in Jungnang-gu, and it is reported that he safely returned home.

Director Son Yong-taek said, “When I saw the elderly man suddenly collapse and have seizures, I ran over without looking back. The bleeding was severe, so I judged that a 119 ambulance was necessary. At first, I was flustered, but I quickly regained my composure. Anyone would have acted like I did in that situation. I didn’t do anything special.”

A colleague who was at the scene said, “If it weren’t for Director Son Yong-taek, something unfortunate could have happened,” describing the urgent situation at the time.

Director Son Yong-taek joined the office in 1990 and has worked in the Cleaning Department, Flood Control Department, Road Department, and now serves as the head of the Vehicle Support Office. He is a model public official who is diligent and reliable, and many employees look up to him.
