Webzen Makes Additional 1 Billion Investment in Indie Game Developer 'Black Anchor Studio'

Webzen announced on the 12th that it has invested 1 billion KRW in 'Black Anchor Studio' and acquired a 16.67% stake to secure a development partner.

With this investment and equity acquisition, Webzen has also secured publishing rights for games developed by Black Anchor Studio. Previously, in 2023, Webzen was responsible for publishing 'Lemore: Infested Kingdom,' developed by Black Anchor Studio.

Black Anchor Studio is a game development company founded in 2020 by CEO Jung Geuk-min, who developed 'Chaos Online' and 'Chaos Masters,' along with senior developers who have worked together for about 10 years.

Webzen plans to expand its strategic investment in Black Anchor Studio and continue efforts to discover not only role-playing games (RPGs) but also indie games.

Meanwhile, Webzen is continuing development investments this year through the CEO-direct 'Unicorn TF' to diversify game genres and secure mid- to long-term growth engines.

Along with external investments, development subsidiaries Webzen Nova are smoothly progressing with the development of the subculture game 'Tervis,' and Webzen Redcore is developing a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) based on Unreal Engine 5.

Starting in the second half of this year, Webzen plans to disclose information about each game according to the development and business schedules of new titles under development and collaborative projects with external developers.
