Gwangju Police Hold Heavy Rain Countermeasure Meeting to 'Check Response System'

The meeting discussed response measures to the recent monsoon characteristics of 'guerrilla-style heavy rain' and 'nocturnal downpours,' which cause significant rainfall differences even between neighboring areas and concentrate heavy rain during late night hours.

To prepare for nighttime and late-night heavy rain during the monsoon season, the following measures were reviewed: ▲ operation of the disaster situation room when there is concern about disasters such as heavy rain ▲ full-scale response regardless of jurisdiction or function upon receiving disaster-related reports of CODE 1 or higher ▲ strengthened patrols in disaster-vulnerable areas ▲ rechecking the disaster response system to actively support local government evacuation orders for residents.

A Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency official said, “Due to the compressed north-south monsoon front, concentrated heavy rain is occurring in narrow areas within a short time,” and added, “In case of disaster, please evacuate quickly to a safe place and immediately report to 112 or 119.”
