Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced that 11 beaches in the Gohung area, including Namyeol Haedoji Beach, have completed all preparations for summer and will simultaneously open from the 13th.

In particular, Namyeol Haedoji Beach is receiving hot attention as a trendy vacation spot this summer.

Namyeol Haedoji Beach, true to its name, is not only a famous sunrise spot but also one of the top five surfing destinations in the country. The waves ideal for surfing are frequently created by winds blowing from the southern open sea, and its gentle depth makes it an optimal place to enjoy surfing.

Additionally, it features an 800-meter fine white sand beach, a campsite under pine trees, spacious parking lots, and shower facilities. There are several professional surfing shops where visitors can rent surfing equipment and take surfing lessons, which adds a special charm that distinguishes it from ordinary beaches.

Thanks to these features, every summer, Namyeol Beach becomes crowded with surfers from all over the country seeking thrilling excitement and vacationers enjoying their holidays.

A recommended nearby attraction is the Gohung Space Launch Observatory located on the cliff to the left of the beach. It has a 360-degree rotating observation caf? where visitors can take in the breathtaking views of the Dadohae (Korean Archipelago) and the Namyeol-ri area at a glance. On clear days, the view extends as far as the Naro Space Center, boasting an outstanding panorama.

If you prefer a calm healing experience, walking the 4km Mir Maru-gil trail from the Gohung Space Launch Observatory to Yongbawi Rock is a great option. The word ‘Mir’ means ‘dragon’ in pure Korean, and along the Mir Maru-gil trail, you can enjoy the legend-filled Yongbawi Rock and dragon sculptures, as well as the panoramic views of the Dadohae, accompanied by the refreshing sound of waves.

Also, there is a special delicacy you must try when visiting Gohung in summer: seasonal gatjang-eo (mud eel) caught in the clean waters of Gohung.

Gatjang-eo is mainly enjoyed as shabu-shabu or sashimi, and you can easily find eel dishes at Nokdong Port, where the eel market is located.

Finely sliced gatjang-eo sashimi, eaten with its bones, offers an exquisite savory flavor that intensifies with each bite. Gatjang-eo shabu-shabu, which blooms like a flower when dipped in broth, is tender and mild in taste, making it one of the best health foods for summer.
