iPhone 16 Targets 90 Million Units Shipment This Year
10% Increase Compared to Previous Model
Apple has decided to increase its shipment target for the iPhone 16, set to be released this September, by 10% compared to its predecessor. This is based on the expectation that its first artificial intelligence (AI) service, 'Apple Intelligence,' will boost demand for iPhone replacements.
On the 10th (local time), Bloomberg News reported, citing sources, that Apple has set the sales target for the new iPhone 16, to be launched this fall, at over 90 million units. This represents a 10% increase from the 81 million units sold of the previous model, the iPhone 15, last year. Apple is said to have communicated this plan to its partners.
A source stated, "Apple believes that adding the Apple Intelligence feature to the iPhone 16, which will be released at the end of the year, will help expand demand."
Following the news of the increased shipment target for the new iPhone, Apple's stock price closed at $232.98 per share on the New York Stock Exchange that day, up 1.88%, marking another all-time high.
Earlier, Apple unveiled its AI system, Apple Intelligence, at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held on the 10th of last month. Expectations that Apple's AI features will increase demand for the latest iPhone models have driven Apple's stock price upward since then. Additionally, Apple is discussing collaboration plans with Meta and Google, following OpenAI, to strengthen its AI service competitiveness for users of its devices such as the iPhone.
