Kim Taeheum Orders Thorough Investigation of Rain Damage and Swift Emergency Restoration

On-site Inspection with Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sangmin and Buyeo County Governor Park Junghyun

Chungnam Governor Kim Tae-heum ordered a "swift implementation of emergency restoration" in response to flood damage caused by heavy rain.

On the 8th, Governor Kim held a meeting at the provincial government office to check the status of damage from the heavy rain and said, "If it rains heavily again, the damage is expected to be significant, but since it occurred in the early morning hours, the extent of the damage may not have been properly identified. Conduct a thorough investigation of the damage and carry out emergency restoration as soon as possible."

He also said, "In Cheonan and Asan, where the damage is relatively minor, please provide manpower, equipment, and other resources to the affected areas," and instructed, "The province should fully support the emergency restoration by accepting the requests from each city and county."

On this day in Chungnam, there was heavy rainfall: Seocheon 203.4mm, Nonsan 173.2mm, Buyeo 173mm, Geumsan 159.3mm, and Gyeryong 139.5mm.

Due to the heavy rain, one person died in Nonsan after an officetel elevator was flooded, and in Seocheon, a landslide caused a house to collapse, resulting in another fatality.

On this day, Governor Kim visited and inspected the flood-damaged areas in Buyeo together with Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min and Buyeo County Governor Park Junghyun.

In Buyeo, up to 450mm of rain fell over the past three days, causing roads and rivers to be washed away, cultural assets and crops to be flooded, and resulting in approximately 10.6 billion won in damages.

At the site, Governor Park requested, "Given the poor financial conditions of basic local governments, please designate this area as a special disaster zone as soon as possible so that restoration work can proceed quickly."
