[Special Stock] SOS Lab, Autonomous Driving LiDAR Demand Accelerates... Expected Supply to Global Parts Manufacturers

SOSLAB is showing strong performance. News that the development of the next-generation 3D fixed LiDAR for autonomous vehicles, ‘ML-A’, being developed in collaboration with a global automotive parts company, is progressing smoothly appears to be influencing the stock price. Initial samples for commercialization are expected to be produced as early as the second half of this year, with vehicle installation and performance testing planned within the year.

As of 9:51 AM on the 10th, SOSLAB is trading at 10,860 KRW, up 16.4% from the previous day.

‘ML-A’ is a high-spec fixed 3D LiDAR optimized for vehicle installation. The recognizable horizontal angle is 60 degrees per side, covering a total field of view of 120 degrees for both left and right. The maximum detection distance is 300 meters, whereas LiDAR used indoors typically has a detection range of only 5 to 30 meters. The resolution is also 0.1 degrees, allowing very detailed discrimination of detected objects.

SOSLAB successfully conducted product sample testing of the previous model of ML-A, the ‘ML-X’, with the partner company in 2022. The following year, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development and mass production of a ‘LiDAR + lamp hybrid’ product. ML-X was also exhibited at CES 2023, the world’s largest IT exhibition, last year and received great acclaim.

The company explained that cooperation was possible because SOSLAB’s product was the only one in the industry to meet the required specifications and was miniaturized enough to fit into automotive lamps. SOSLAB independently handles all areas from core LiDAR component design to software (SW) development.

SOSLAB plans to continue research and development with its partner company and aims to fully commercialize product sales in line with the anticipated autonomous driving market boom as early as next year. SOSLAB expects demand to range from a minimum of 10,000 units to a maximum of 100,000 units during the early stages of market growth.

An SOSLAB representative said, “We have been working closely with our partner company for a long time, maximizing business synergies in various fields beyond product development. We will continue to maintain close cooperation to accelerate innovative product development and strive to secure a leading position in the market.”

The Future Automotive Parts Industry Act, which will serve as a cornerstone for strengthening the competitiveness of the future automotive parts industry, comes into effect today. The Future Automotive Parts Industry Act was enacted to advance the domestic future automotive parts industry ecosystem in response to structural changes in the automotive industry such as ▲autonomous driving ▲carbon neutrality ▲electrification. The government plans to designate and nurture 100 specialized future automotive parts companies by 2027 under this act.
