Samsung Electronics has released the thinnest product ever in its foldable phone 'Galaxy Z Fold·Flip' series. It has enhanced the productivity of Galaxy AI by improving features such as the 'dual screen' that allows users to simultaneously check interpreted content with the other party and the 'Notes' application (app).

On the 10th (local time), Samsung Electronics held the 'Galaxy Unpacked 2024' event at Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France, and unveiled the foldable phones 'Galaxy Z Fold6' and 'Galaxy Z Flip6.' The Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are the thinnest in the series, with thicknesses of 5.6mm and 6.9mm respectively when folded. The weights of the two products are 239g and 187g respectively, and the design is more angular than the previous models. Both products will be released starting from the 24th.
The AI applied to the Z6 series by Samsung Electronics has evolved beyond what was shown in the first Galaxy AI phone, the 'S24 series.' The mobile application processor (AP) is equipped with Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon 8 Gen 3,' optimizing AI processing. The conversation mode utilizing the foldable's characteristic 'dual screen' offers a more practical interpretation function. Users can view the internal screen of the foldable phone while the other party simultaneously views the external screen, enabling conversation. When using the 'listening mode' in the interpretation function to watch videos in foreign languages, real-time translated text is displayed on the screen. The 'real-time interpretation' service providing two-way interpretation during calls is now compatible not only with the phone app but also with various messaging apps such as KakaoTalk, LINE, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
The 'Note Assist' feature in the 'Samsung Notes' app, which offers translation, summarization, and format conversion, now includes a voice recording to text conversion function. Users can take notes in Samsung Notes while recording voice, and convert it into a script to utilize translation and summarization features. The 'PDF Overlay Translation' function has also been added, allowing text within PDF documents to be translated in Samsung Notes. The Samsung Keyboard now includes a writing feature that generates email body text or social media post phrases when keywords are typed.
The camera functions have also been enhanced with the AI-based 'Pro Visual Engine' for shooting, editing, and viewing. The 'Portrait Studio' feature transforms people into styles such as 3D characters or watercolor paintings. With the pre-installed Google Gemini app, users can summon an AI assistant for help with information gathering, writing, and planning.
There are AI features tailored to each device. Z Flip6 users can use the 'Reply Suggestion' feature through the 86.1mm (3.4-inch) cover screen 'Flex Window' while the screen is folded. When a message arrives, it analyzes the seven most recent conversations and suggests three customized replies. The 'Style Recommendation' feature allows users to personalize the Flex Window with their own style. Additionally, the 'Flex Cam' that launches the camera from the Flex Window applies AI-based auto-zoom to capture the optimal photo composition.
The Z Fold6 allows simple drawings made with the S Pen to be transformed into images by generative AI. For example, if you open a dog photo in the gallery, draw sunglasses over the dog's eyes, and use the 'Sketch Conversion' feature, it generates an actual sunglasses image. Note that the S Pen is sold separately.
Besides AI features, the Z Flip6 has improved camera capabilities with a 50-megapixel wide-angle and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The AI zoom solution enables clear photos even when zoomed up to 10 times, and Nightography and dynamic HDR allow vivid video recording in low-light environments. Night shooting is also available through the Instagram in-app camera.
For the Z Fold6, the vapor chamber that optimizes the chipset and cooling system is 1.6 times larger, allowing for longer stable gaming sessions. The large 193.2mm (7.6-inch) display supports 2600 nits brightness and offers immersive graphics with 'ray tracing.' The cover screen applies a new aspect ratio of 22.1:1.
The Z Fold6 will be released in 256GB (2,229,700 KRW), 512GB (2,388,100 KRW), and 1TB (2,704,900 KRW) models. The 1TB model will be available through online channels such as Samsung.com, mobile carrier websites, and some offline stores including Samsung Store. Colors include Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy. The Z Flip6 will be released in 256GB (1,485,000 KRW) and 512GB (1,643,400 KRW) models, with four color options: Blue, Silver Shadow, Yellow, and Mint.
Exclusive colors will be released on Samsung.com and at 'Samsung Gangnam.' The Z Fold6 will have exclusive Crafted Black and White colors, while the Z Flip6 will have exclusive Crafted Black, White, and Peach colors. Domestic pre-orders for both products will be held from the 12th to the 18th.
