Support for Hosting Competition at Gijang County Office, Residents Join in Hopes
Gijang County in Busan (County Governor Jung Jongbok) held the "KTX-Eum Stop Station Gijang County Invitation Rally" at the Gijang County Office on the 9th, organized by the Gijang County Heads of Institutions Council, bringing together the strength of related local organizations.
The event was attended by Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, Park Hongbok, Chairperson of the Gijang County Council, and the heads of 15 related organizations.
The participants raised their voices in unison, chanting slogans expressing their wish for the KTX-Eum stop station to be established in Gijang County, in the lobby of the county office.
Fifteen heads of organizations from Gijang County Institution Council are chanting the slogan "Attract KTX-Eum Stop Station to Gijang County."
The attending institution heads included Noh Youngjin, Head of the Gijang Branch of the National Health Insurance Service; Lee Donha, Head of the Eastern Busan Branch of the National Pension Service; Park Sunhee, Head of Gijang Post Office; Lee Changhun, Director of the Southeast Nuclear Medical Center; Lee Gwanghun, Director of the Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power; Lee Sangseok, Chairperson of the Gijang County Council of the National Unification Advisory Council; Kang Juhun, Director of Gijang Cultural Center; Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County; Park Hongbok, Chairperson of the Gijang County Council; Song Suho, Head of Dongbusan Nonghyup; Moon Yonghwan, Head of Gijang Suhyup; Han Sangseop, Head of the Gijang County Branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation; Lee Donguk, Head of the Gijang Branch of Korea Electric Power Corporation; Noh Geunu, President of Busan Gijang JC; and Song Seongtae, Chairperson of the Gijang County Council for the Right Living Movement.
Governor Jung Jongbok emphasized, "Gijang County is rapidly growing as a central city of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, and a KTX-Eum stop station is essential to respond to the large-scale transportation demand in the area, including the Osiria Tourism Complex and the Southeast Radiation Medical Science Industrial Complex."
Governor Jung further requested, "With the attraction of a KTX-Eum stop station, I hope for the wholehearted cooperation and support of all institution heads so that Gijang County's transportation network can be dramatically improved in connection with the future Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan metropolitan railway."
In 2022, Gijang County completed a feasibility study for attracting a KTX-Eum stop station and directly submitted a petition with 141,000 signatures from county residents to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. All county residents are actively participating in efforts to attract the KTX-Eum stop station.
In particular, the county is located at the midpoint between Ulsan and Busan, through which the KTX-Eum passes, making it easy to secure sufficient distance between stop stations. As of 2023, the number of users on the Donghae Line surpasses that of competing stations. In addition, with the development of 13 large-scale industrial complexes, including the Southeast Radiation Medical Science General Industrial Complex, and the rapid population influx due to the settlement of new towns such as Jeonggwan, Ilgwang, and Jangan, Gijang County has secured ample justification for attracting a KTX-Eum stop station.
