Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 9th that it will carry out replacement work for aging streetlights and wiring along Samyang-ro with a budget of nearly 1 billion KRW, to be completed by November this year.

The replacement project covers approximately a 2.1 km road section from Solbat Park to Hwaje Station. Aging streetlights that have been in use for over 15 years will be replaced using a secured Seoul city budget of 972 million KRW.

This area is densely populated with residential buildings such as Solbat Park and Byeoksan Apartments, which are frequently used by residents. The project road is adjacent to Hyehwa Girls' High School, Suyu Middle School, Hwaje Middle School, Yuhyeon Elementary School, Ui Elementary School, and Baegun Elementary School, making it a road heavily trafficked by many students and residents. Due to the outdated lighting facilities, nighttime passage was inconvenient and posed safety concerns.

The scale of this construction includes 76 existing streetlight poles, 5 distribution boxes, 3,300 meters of wiring, and 1 closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera. To minimize inconvenience to pedestrians, the district will replace the previous standalone distribution boxes with integrated distribution boxes that combine streetlight poles and distribution boxes, and will also install smart streetlights that integrate streetlights and CCTV.
