Strengthening Practical Skills in Network Pharmacology Analysis of Herbal Medicines
The Intelligent Informatization Center of the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development held the 2024 Practical Workshop on Korean Medicine Data Analysis on July 6, 2024, at the Soldesk Education Center in Jongno, Seoul, under the theme of "Network Pharmacology."
"Network Pharmacology" is a field of study that seeks to understand and predict the mechanisms of drug action within complex biological systems by analyzing the interactions between drug targets and biological networks.
The first session focused on "Network Pharmacology for Elucidating the Efficacy and Mechanisms of Herbal Medicines," while the second session covered "Python-Based Network Pharmacology Analysis of Herbal Medicines" (including building herbal ingredient and related target networks, herbal medicine-centered network analysis, visualization, and proximity-based reinterpretation of indications).
Participants commented, "Thanks to the systematic lectures covering both theory and practice, we were able to gain an in-depth understanding of network pharmacology in the field of Korean medicine," adding, "In particular, the hands-on exercises on constructing, analyzing, and visualizing herbal ingredient target networks were very helpful."
Jung Changhyun, President of the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development, stated, "We strengthen our capabilities in the field of Korean medicine every year through workshops on data analysis and artificial intelligence technology," adding, "We will continue to operate support programs to foster experts in data analysis related to Korean medicine and enhance the utility of public data based on experimental information on herbal medicines."
