Jeju Coast Guard Conducts Emergency Rescue Drill for Drowning Victims at Gimnyeong Beach

Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief Ji Guk-hyun) announced on the 8th that on the 5th, a joint emergency rescue drill for drowning victims related to water play safety for beachgoers was conducted at Kimnyeong Beach with the Special Rescue Team and Water Rescue Team of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association Jeju Branch.

The need for safety management along the coast during summer, where lifeguards are not stationed from Kimnyeong Beach to Sehwa Beach, was raised. Accordingly, the Jeju Maritime Police Station donated a rescue boat free of charge to the Korea Rescue Association Jeju Branch, which was then deployed as an emergency rescue vessel for the Jeju Special Rescue Team to conduct rescue training for safety management such as coastal patrols.

This drill was conducted as a response training for emergencies at sea coinciding with the opening of the beach, simulating an actual situation from the report of a drowning victim at sea to on-site dispatch and rescue.

A Jeju Maritime Police official said, “During the peak summer season, initial response and rescue before the arrival of maritime police forces are crucial, so we have strengthened cooperation with civilian organizations for safety management in vulnerable eastern coastal areas and undesignated beaches.” He added, “We hope this training will develop the public-private cooperation system and serve as an opportunity to create a safer sea.”
