Ramming onto the Sidewalk Near Seoul Station

On the 6th, a vehicle driven by an elderly driver crashed onto the sidewalk near Seoul Station, injuring two pedestrians. The police plan to investigate whether there was a sudden unintended acceleration.

According to the police, the car of an 80-year-old man, Mr. A, rushed onto the sidewalk around 9:20 a.m. after exiting a gas station near Seoul Station.

Two pedestrians were hit by Mr. A's car and were transported to a nearby hospital. It is reported that Mr. A's vehicle hit several pedestrians in succession before crashing into a building wall and coming to a stop.

One witness said, "There was a 'buaang' and a loud bang at the time of the accident," adding, "The airbags inside the car had deployed, and the driver was conscious but appeared to be in pain."

Mr. A is known to claim sudden unintended acceleration. Footage from a nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) captured scenes of the accident vehicle's brakes being applied. However, a police official stated, "Whether there was sudden unintended acceleration is something that needs to be confirmed going forward, so we cannot say if it is true or false at this time."
