Opportunity to Enhance Efficient Pest Control Capabilities
Buan Maritime Police Station (Chief Seo Young-gyo) conducted a large-scale joint civil-government maritime pollution response drill on the sea off Gyeokpo, Buan-gun, Jeonbuk, on the 4th.
According to the Maritime Police on the 5th, about 90 personnel from five organizations and groups including Buan Maritime Police, Jeonbuk Province, Buan-gun, Korea National Park Service, and the Marine Autonomous Defense Corps participated in the drill, with 13 vessels deployed. The drill simulated a scenario where a collision between cargo ships at sea caused a fuel tank rupture, resulting in the leakage of the loaded fuel oil.

The main exercises included ▲ sealing the air vent of the damaged part of the accident ship by the Maritime Police rescue team ▲ triple installation of oil fences ▲ recovery of spilled oil using oil recovery machines ▲ protective measures for nearby fishing grounds and aquaculture farms using heavy oil adsorbents.
A coastal pollution response technology consulting expert attended the drill, sharing 20 years of experience and knowledge. This provided an opportunity to enhance civil-government cooperation and pollution response capabilities.
Chief Seo Young-gyo stated, "As the responsible agency for marine pollution response in the southwestern part of Jeonbuk, we will protect the lives and property of the people and continue to work harder with civil-government cooperation to create a clean sea."
