Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) held the launch ceremony and orientation for the "Middle School Global Program" at the Guro-gu Office auditorium on the 3rd.
The district selected 50 first-year middle school students recommended by principals of schools located in Guro-gu, and held a preliminary briefing session for parents of the summer camp in April.
The launch ceremony was attended by students participating in the summer camp and their parents, and included the reading of the student representative's pledge, group photo session, preliminary education, and Q&A.
The summer camp will be held for four weeks from July 15 to August 10 at the dormitory of the University of Waterloo in Canada, offering English classes, visits to prestigious Canadian universities, local cultural experiences, and volunteer activities.
Since 2020, the district has been operating the "Middle School Global Training Program" to improve youths' foreign language skills and provide diverse cultural experience opportunities, and supports the training tuition to reduce the financial burden on participating students.
Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, said, "I hope this overseas training program will greatly help students find their career paths and aptitudes," and added, "Guro-gu will continue to make steady efforts to foster students into talents competitive on the global stage through ongoing exchanges with Canada."
Meanwhile, the district plans to promote overseas training for pre-selected middle school students during this winter vacation as well.
